Our top ten eats of 2025
As we arrived in Perth at the beginning of the year, we were so excited to try lots of new restaurants, bars and coffee shops. I had even made a list of places I wanted to try before we even left Glasgow. So 2025 was full of date nights, coffee stops and soaking in all that Perth had to offer. Our top ten eats are in no particular order and they are all different in their flavours, locations and price. If you live in Perth or coming to visit, we definitely recommend visiting these places!
Besk, West Leederville
Besk has became one of our favourite local spots, particularly for a wine or two. But the quality of the food here does not scrimp on the usual ‘pub grub’ you might expect. It’s no surprise why they won Pub of the Year in 2025. Their gnocchi is to die for.
Tonic + Ginger, Fremantle
Tonic + Ginger was recommended to us by a friend and wow it did not disappoint. We left needing a nap after all the south east asian food we consumed. Their braised beef massaman and the fire cracker cauliflower were so tasty. They offer a feed me menu so you can sit back, not stress about what to order and let the chef surprise you.
Gibney, Cottesloe
Gibney is a high end restaurant just off the prestigious Cottesloe Beach, which makes the sunsets here incredible whilst you dine. 2025 was a big year for them in regards to awards, winning - Restaurant of the Year and WA’s Best Wine List. The drinks cart which travels around the restaurant whilst the mixologist makes some speciality drinks right at your table is an extra added experience.
The Shorehouse, Swanbourne
The Shorehouse is the sister restaurant of Gibney located just a short drive away. The Shorehouse is a less formal restaurant and caters for breakfast, lunch and dinner. On a sunny day, the outdoor seating area is absolutely gorgeous, the sort of spot where you sit down, feel the warmth and suddenly have no desire to leave. The cocktails were brilliant and matched the food every step of the way.
Intuition, Subiaco
Intuition is a cosy small French, Mediterranean restaurant set in the bustling Subiaco. The restaurant had been on my radar before it officially opened at the end of 2024. The menu is thoughtful and full of charm, the service warm and attentive, and the wine list is a dream for any European wine lover.
Monstrella, Wembley
Monstrella is hands down the best pizza in Perth. With my husband being coeliac, it is so hard for him to find a really good pizza, and Monstrella’s did not disappoint. The casual dining space means you can rock up after a day at City Beach and enjoy one of their many yummy pizzas or grab one to takeaway and watch the sunset - both witch we have done on many occasion. Or dress up and meet friends, it really is welcoming of any vibe. A firm favourite!
La Cabana, South Fremantle
La Cabana is a vibrant Mexican restaurant which serves up lots of sharing Mexican plates as well cocktails - tequila heavy of course. We attended one of their bbq pop ups during the summer and the atmosphere was fun and loud. Everything on the menu is basically gluten free, which again was an added bonus for my husband.
Lums, Subiaco
Lums is a wine bar that we have visited often since moving to Perth. It’s a small cosy little wine bar by night and a great sun trap alfresco during the day. The quality of food here is really high and their wine list is long and extensive for a small little wine bar in Subi.
Coogee in Common, Coogee
Coogee in Common is set within the old Coogee Hotel and focusses on serving garden to plate dishes. This restaurant was high up on my list for the full year, so when we finally visited in December, it lived up to my high expectations. Wonder through the garden before your meal or even grab a drink whilst you're out there. Their wine list is large featuring Australian and European wines.
Vin Populi, Fremantle
Italian food is my ultimate favourite so it’s a big statement to say that Vin Populi is definitely the best Italian restaurant we’ve eaten at so far in Perth. If you're sitting street side on a sunny day, you could close your eyes, taste your pasta and take a sip of your Aperol Spritz and you will feel like you're in Italy. They also make their own gluten free pasta which is very inclusive of the coeliac community.
