Wineries
Dressing up and visiting wineries with my husband is one of my top five favourite things to do. Set in beautiful, romantic locations, with incredible wine and some of the best food around, it's the perfect date day in my eyes. Australia truly is blessed with some of the best wineries in the world and we've already visited plenty in the short time we've been living here. I'm hoping to explore even more around the country as we settle into our new life down under, but for now, here's where I'd recommend visiting in WA.
Millbrook Winery, Jarrahdale
Just under an hour's drive from Perth, in the historic town of Jarrahdale, you'll find the beautiful Millbrook Winery. As you arrive, you're greeted by stunning grounds- vineyards, a picturesque lake, the restaurant itself and even a helipad, where we watched guests touching down for lunch. Millbrook was recently awarded two stars in the 2026 WAGFG Top 100 Restaurants, and it's easy to see why. They don't buy in their fruit or vegetables, instead the menu is written around what comes from their 90-year-old orchard and heirloom vegetable garden, grown each season from seeds saved the year before. It's garden to plate in the truest sense, with the produce dictating the food rather than the other way around. So if you're after a beautiful location, incredible food and wine and a spot that's not too far from home, Millbrook is my pick every time.
Vasse Felix, Margaret River
The oldest winery in Margaret River and recently awarded the prestigious title of number one winery in Australia by the Halliday Top 100 Wineries, Vasse Felix carries a reputation that delivers on every level. The grounds are beautiful and the stunning main building looks directly out over the vineyards, setting a scene that's hard to beat. Beyond the wines, the food was absolutely unbelievable - the kind of long, leisurely lunch you lose track of time over. Needless to say, we didn't leave empty handed, with a couple of very well chosen bottles making their way home with us. A world class experience from start to finish.
Voyager Estate, Margaret River
Voyager Estate is something else entirely. From the moment you arrive, the immaculately kept grounds feel more like a grand English country estate than a winery in Western Australia, honestly stunning in every sense and instantly setting the tone for what's to come. Winners of the WAGFG Regional Restaurant of the Year 2025, the acclaim is well deserved. Yes, it's on the pricier side, but this is one of those experiences where you understand every cent spent. The food was beautifully thought out and the service was impeccable from start to finish. The menu you follow, dependant on dietary requirements, is illustrated by a local artist and was a beautiful touch.
Masseria, Margaret River
Being big fans of Cherubino City Cellar wine bar in Subiaco, I made sure we stopped by their sister restaurant, Masseria, while we were down south. Italian food is my favourite cuisine, so I was completely in my element digging into homemade pasta and tiramisu. A major bonus too- my husband was able to enjoy homemade gluten free pasta, which isn't always easy to come by. The restaurant itself is gorgeous, with high ceilings and exposed wooden beams giving it real character. Visiting in winter, the fire crackling away in the fireplace only added to that cosy, rustic atmosphere. Service was warm and genuinely family-friendly, the Italian way of course.
Wills Domain, Margaret River
Just a short drive from Dunsborough, you'll find the award-winning Wills Domain winery and restaurant. After hearing so many glowing recommendations, we finally got round to visiting on our most recent trip and it did not disappoint. The setting is stunning, with sweeping views over the vineyards to enjoy as you work your way through the menu. Everyone raves about the bread and butter here, and you'd be forgiven for thinking "it's just bread and butter" but honestly, it was one of the best I've ever tasted. As we visited towards the end of winter, ours came as a macadamia butter with plum and native bread- I'd seriously recommend it. My favourite dish of the visit, though, was the Winter Brassicas entrée. It was packed with flavour and I could have happily drunk the cheese sauce by the gallon.
Wise, Dunsborough
Award winning Wise Winery serves up a great lunch, as well as wine over a stunning view - the gnocchi was unbelievable. Be sure to visit their cellar door for a wine or gin tasting too, I'd personally recommend doing both. Their mandarin gin is one of the best gins we’ve ever tasted.
