Denmark

Denmark is an absolute gem and one of the most unexpectedly beautiful stops on the whole trip. The lush greenery, towering trees, farm animals dotted along the roadside and hidden beaches around every corner give it a character unlike anywhere else in Western Australia. Driving through Denmark, it felt so much like Scotland on one of those rare, glorious sunny summer days that it was almost surreal to be reminded we were still in WA. Breathtaking in the most surprising way. We only had one night here, which we regretted almost immediately upon arriving. Two nights at an absolute minimum would be our recommendation. We stayed at a fantastic Airbnb on a farm, tucked inside a beautifully refurbished shipping container which was as cool and comfortable as it sounds.

For food, we visited:

Pepper + salt

Pepper + salt is beautifully located with stunning views out over the trees and timing your visit for sunset makes it nothing short of magical. The food was really good and excellent value for money, a combination that's always worth celebrating. The one area of honest feedback would be around dietary inclusivity, with nothing on the main menu catering to vegetarians. That said, the staff were accommodating and made sure I was taken care of after gathering information from the kitchen on what they could provide, which was genuinely appreciated.

The Dam

The Dam has a lot going for it as a venue. The bar and restaurant are well laid out, the outdoor seating area is lovely and the big play park would keep children entertained whilst you enjoyed a drink or two. As a spot for drinks, it absolutely delivers. The food was where it fell a little short of expectations for us, though to his credit the manager went out of his way to apologise and treated us to a complimentary drink, a genuinely nice gesture despite the hiccup. Their CBD drink range is fantastic, especially their ginger beer and pink lemonade!
