Bake off

Is there any better way to start your morning than with a great cup of coffee and a pastry on the side? I think not. Lucky for us, Perth is spoiled for choice when it comes to quality bakeries and I've made it my mission to work my way through every single one - all in the name of research, of course.

Here are my recommendations so far:

Layers Bakery, Subiaco

Tucked into Subiaco Square, French bakery Layers has built a reputation strong enough to have customers queuing out the door on a regular basis and one bite of their pastries tells you why. Alongside their firm favourites, available year round, they roll out four new monthly specials to keep things exciting.

Miller and Baker, Northbridge

Miller and Baker has you queuing regularly and it's not hard to understand why. Their attention to detail shows in every bake, with flavours that are always changing and consistently amazing. Their street side seating is the perfect spot to relax with a well deserved coffee and a cheeky treat.

Wild Bakery, Various Locations

Craving a flakey delicious almond croissant? Wild will always hit the spot. With their main locations situated throughout South Perth, as well as great pop ups at weekly markets, be sure to give them a try. Their huge slices of pizzas are also just divine.

Dough Street, Balcatta

You know how we feel about Dough Street, we have a blog page solely dedicated to them for a reason. The best gluten free bakery that never fails to make my gluten free husband very happy.

Zonts, Northbridge

Zonts landed on my radar when they started making tiramisu croissant tarts and it's honestly as good and as tasty as it sounds. Alongside their fantastic sweet and savoury pastries, they serve Blacklist Coffee, which if you've seen my coffee blog page, you'll know it is one of my favourite coffee spots/producers.

Chu Bakery, Highgate

Chu Bakery is the ever popular bakery for good reason and it's well worth the visit. The produce is top tier, and with Hyde Park right across the road, it's the perfect excuse to grab a treat and a coffee, throw down a picnic blanket and soak up the park's beautiful surroundings. Weekends get extremely busy, so be prepared to queue - but it's worth the wait.

Croff Bakery, West Leederville

Croff has just recently expanded in opening up their West Leederville bake house, which has been a huge hit - we had to wait around for a table to become available. The pistachio croissant was my favourite.

Strange Grains, Shenton Park

Looking for a genuinely great gluten free loaf? Strange Grains never disappoints, and with a shelf full of award wins, it's easy to see why. Their sourdough range is the real standout, with the classic and olive varieties being our personal favourites. Beyond the bread, they've also got a selection of sweet and savoury baked treats, plus coffee -perfect for a relaxed seat at one of their outdoor street side tables.
